Lonsdale House Hotel occupies a prominent trading location yet within a tranquil position, just off the town’s retail area. Built of classic Georgian proportions in 1787 for local cleric George Fell, this delightful property is traded on a bed and breakfast basis and attracts predominantly both commercial sector, together with tourists visiting the local area and of course the Lake District National Park. There are superb landscaped gardens to the rear with a folly-style boundary making Lonsdale House an ideal location for small weddings, private functions and events.

Situated between Morecambe Bay and the Lake District National Park, Ulverston is South Lakeland’s festival town with events packing the year from the Walking Festival in March to the 2-day Christmas Dickens Festival at the end of November. The town centres on its market place with Market Charter granted in 1280 and which continues to this day. In the 18th Century, the town was a vital port and continues to be an important centre of commerce as well as attracting many thousands of tourists to this lovely corner of Cumbria, which was the birthplace of Stan Laurel.

The hotel was acquired by the current owners in 2007 who then immediately set about an extensive refurbishment programme of this classic Georgian hotel , upgrading its public rooms and many of its 19 en suite bedrooms. The business has been successfully operated by a husband and wife team on a bed and breakfast basis, with a small compliment of staff to help out in busy times.

Unfortunately however, due to illness and bereavement, the family have had appoint additional staff members to operate the business in their absence. This has significantly increased staff costs, but it is worth pointing out that should new owners choose to operate the business themselves, a significant cost saving could be achieved saving over £50,000 per year. Additionally, new revenue streams could be developed by utilizing the properties indoor and outdoor spaces by opening a restaurant to cater for the towns busy food and beverage demand and function room for corporate conferences and weddings.
